Does the Erion fit my bike?

In just a few minutes, you’ll know whether the Erion fits your bike and which angle you need. All you need is your phone and a ruler or measuring tape.

Step 1: Enough space? (15-mm-Check)

Shift into the hardest gear and tension the chain by applying pressure to the pedal while holding the rear brake, keeping the rear wheel locked. At the intended Erion mounting position, measure the distance between the underside of the chain and the chainstay. A minimum clearance of 15 mm is required for installation. If there is not enough space, you can remove the chainstay protector. In most cases, this creates enough clearance for installation.

Step 2: Does the chainstay run under the chain ?

The chainstay must run beneath the chain throughout the intended mounting area, and the gap between the chain and chainstay should remain reasonably consistent along this section. Certain high-pivot bikes with an idler pulley are not suitable. On these bikes, the chain may sit far above the chainstay near the chainring but run very close to it near the cassette. Examples include the Commencal Supreme DH V5 and some older Santa Cruz frames with VPP suspension.

Step 3: Which angle?

The ideal position for the rear Erion unit is where the chain crosses the chainstay. This is usually around one third of the distance between the rear axle and the chainring. If the chain does not cross the chainstay, use the one third point along the chainstay as a guide instead. Once you have identified the position, take a photo from above with your phone.Compare your photo with the two examples below. The green line shows the chainstay and the blue line shows the chain. The angle where they meet is what matters. Then choose the version that most closely matches your photo.

Kettenstrebe und Kettenlinie im Winkel von 12 Grad

12°

Rule of thumb: To 9° choose 6°, over 9° choose 12°.

A not on the chainstayprotector

Also make sure that the mounting surface is stable and as flat as possible. Very soft rubber protective films, pronounced rubber ridges, or air bubbles beneath a frame protector can lead to an unstable attachment. This could cause the Erion to rotate while riding.
